Set in an underwater data center, PIRADATA explores the territorial and political dimensions of digital data, questioning the entangled power of nation-states and private corporations that control critical digital infrastructures.
A real-time full-body motion capture system was used to generate datasets that animate the video’s main character — a digital double shaped through our online behaviors. Through this device, the work interrogates the implications of our relationship with our data-driven identities.
This work was developed in the framework of the Residency Programme Prender-Si Cura curated by Ilaria Mancia at MATTATOIO Rome, and informed by SPONDA\ mentoring sessions with Piersandra Di Matteo, Riccardo Fazi and Paola Granato, facilitating dramaturgical experimentation in the field of video and performing arts.
