INIZIATIVE DI II
curated by Lisa Andreani, Maziar Firouzi, Francesca Pionati and Tommaso Arnaldi, 2021.
Various location, Rome.
Rome. “Una semimilano, una mezzatorino, una superparlermo, una mezzocairo”. We asked a group of artists to fill up on their individual practices into the collectivity. We want to take back the public space, retrive the randomness of living in the city, foster a breach into the unexpected.
We embrace the new, mixture and metamorphosis, physical and digital, the street and the stage.
We lay claim to the process of self-exploitation that we are putting in place. The will to connect through relational economy. A community that ties and unties, evidence of presence. Actions driven by urgency and need.

Iniziative di II was inspired by the homonymous experience that took place in Rome in 1977, when Simone Carella, Ulisse Benedetti, Franco Cordelli, and Giuseppe Bartolucci—initiators of Beat 72, the legendary independent space devoted to theatrical research—promoted a season of happenings throughout the city.

In 2021 Francesca Pionati, Tommaso Arnaldi, Nicolò Pellarin and Lisa Andreani collected this legacy and founded Iniziative di II to explore the relationship between performativity and the public space, the streets and the stage. They asked a asked a group of artists to fill up on their individual practices into the collectivity. The resulting series of performative gestures lasted 12 days, from the 8th and the 16th of May, involving a number of artists from the Roman community.

Iniziative di II first edition included Salò, Nicola Pecoraro, Mauro Remiddi and Rä Di Martino, Tommaso Arnaldi, Francesca Pionati and Maziar Firouzi, Lisa Andreani, Orizzontale, Industria Indipendente, Luca Lo Pinto, Giulia Crispiani, Diego Gualandris and Giorgia Garzilli, Tropicantesimo, REPLICA, Nicolò Pellarin, and Guido Gazzilli.
